Braley is a 4.5-acre impoundment constructed in 1965 by the U.S. Forest Service as a recreation pond. It was drained in 1989 to dredge the upper end. The fill was used to build a "fishing point." Keeper-sized rainbow trout are stocked and largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish are thriving.

In 1989 while the lake was empty, rock piles, log cribs, and brush shelters were added to create fish habitat.

Fishing Tips, Tactics, How-To info:

Bass can be caught around any woody debris (brush piles, beaver lodges,
fallen trees, artificial habitat), ledges, channels, and drop-offs.

Locate bluegill around sunken brush piles, fallen trees, beaver lodges, and shady areas.

Redears occupy deep water and can be located in schools on drop-offs, old
roadbeds, and woody debris.

Adult channel catfish are stocked annually into Braley Pond. Occasionally, a large channel cat is caught, but it is the exception rather than the rule.

Recreational Activities:

There are trails from the parking and picnic areas to the pond; and shorefishing is available all around the pond. The lake is surrounded by remote, undeveloped mountain lands offering good hiking, hunting, camping, and photographic opportunities.
