Fishing Report Big Arbor Vitae Lake Wisconsin - 2012-08-25 #1
Well, another year has passed fishing my Heaven on Earth, Big Arbor Vitae. We fished from 8/25 to 8/31. Thanks as always go to Pete and Barb Ladwig for their wonderful hospitality and clean resort Pine Arbor, they make us feel like family. Another shout out to Kurt's Island Sports for their lively fish catching bait.
Now for the fishing. For the first time in my 20+ years of fishing Big Arbor, we managed the GrandSlam on the lake. We caught Crappie, Blue Gill, Perch, Rock Bass, Large and Smallmouth Bass, Muskie and Walleye. The Walleye and Smallmouth fishing was spectacular to say the least. My Brother-In-Law Glenn and I caught 30+ Smallies several over 18"s the largest being Glenn's 22"er. What a tank that fish was. The Largemouth fishing was not as great as passed years bite. We did manage 20+ with 4 over 16"s the largest being a 19" fatty that I managed to land. The bait of choice was Senkos, BitsyBug Jigs with crayfish trailers and the old standby Jig and Crawler which worked especially well with the Smallmouth. We landed only one Crappie, one 27" Muskie one Perch six or so Rock bass and Bluegill, the Perch and Bluegill to achieve the GrandSlam. We hit these while fishing for Bass. Now for the Walleye. We managed to land 45+ walleye. Twelve of these were 18 to 25"s. Glenn scored the 25" beauty! You may not believe this but we had a difficult time catching small fish. What a problem to have! I would say we caught only 4 undersize fish for the week. It was unbelievable releasing 16-18" walleye because they were over the slot. This may sound like a fish story but it's all true.
As you can see this was a trip Glenn and I will never duplicate. We will talk about it till our last breath. Glenn said it best when he said, "You Should Have Been Here This Week"!
As Always Stay Safe And, "Keep Your Lines Wet".
