Fishing Report Lake McConaughy Nebraska - 2010-08-31 #7

Date I Fished:
08/31/2010
Report:

Surface water temperature along the dam is 77° F. The lake elevation is 3258.6 which is 29.3 feet higher than the elevation last year on this date, and 6.4 feet lower than normal full capacity. Inflow into Lake McConaughy is 2,591 cfs, while outflow is 3,233 cfs. The lake elevation declined 0.3 feet in the past week.

Walleye angling success remains inconsistent and is scattered throughout the reservoir in deeper water. The south shoreline east and west of Lakeview is now the more popular location for boat anglers. Most 20 inch and larger fish are taken by anglers casting jigs, crankbaits or spinnerbaits near, or over, submerged brush. Trolling crankbaits or spinnerbaits also produces fish.

White bass surface schooling activity remains spotty and inconsistent. Best locations have been the Lakeview, Otter Creek and Spring Park areas. Some white bass are taken by anglers trolling crankbaits for walleye. Wiper from 4 to 10 pounds have been taken by both boat and bank anglers casting jigs or crankbaits near the shoreline over the entire reservoir.

Channel catfish success remains good on the west half of the reservoir and in the channels of the North Platte River up to Lewellen and further upstream. Boat and bank anglers are having the best success using shad entrails or shrimp bait.

Usable concrete boat ramps for launching can be found at the Cedar Vue lakeside ramp, Otter Creek Bay, Spring Park, Lemoyne Bay ramp, Arthur Bay, Lakeview Bay, Martin Bay ramp and both ramps at Sports Service Bay. Public boat launching is also available from the beach at North Shore.
