Fishing Report Lake Michigan Indiana - 2010-03-12 #1
Anglers were reporting nice catches of coho salmon in the MC harbor, lower reaches of Trail Cr & out on the Lighthouse Pier to DNR creel clerks this past week before thunderstorms rolled through the region over the past couple of days. Coho salmon were also caught along Burns Ditch as well. Effective baits included nightcrawlers, shrimp & skein fished anywhere from 4-10 ft below a float. According to early reports, coho salmon are averaging around 19' (approx. 2 lbs).
Good action for steelhead reported throughout Trail Cr. & the lower reaches of the E. Br. of the Little Cal River before storms rolled through the area. Top baits included spawn sacs or shrimp floated just above the bottom in the deeper holes & runs. Anglers also caught a few steelhead on spinners with orange blades.
As of this morning (3/12/2010), area tribs are high with very muddy water conditions (visibility less than 4"). The harbor in Michigan City is free of ice; however, visibility is poor.
