Fishing Report Castaic Lake California - 2010-07-01 #1
Fishing at the upper lake is picking up slowly but lower lagoon is still off the hook. Largies at the lagoon are very active hitting small swimbaits and plastics. Drop shot and Texas rigs are working great for the Roboworms. Also night crawlers are doing very good on a Carolina rig near the fishing pier.
Night fishing at the lagoon has been the hot commodity lately, 6+ pounders have been reported almost every other day. For the stripers at the upper lake the buoy line is still the best place to be for the stripers. With this latest increase in fishing numbers we are starting to see bigger fish size, more 4 to 6 pounders are starting to be caught and sardines. The striper bite goes on for most of the day, it’s kind of a slow steady bite.
Near Kong Island the shore anglers are still catching a few fish, but the bite has really been picking up in the afternoon off of the dam. From like 5:30 on, the stripers seem to get more aggressive and start biting the anchovies and sardines.
The largemouth at the upper lake have been doing ok still and are still biting most plastics. Necktie Cyn and Hawks Nest have been some very productive coves throughout the day. Night crawlers will also work in the calmer coves and sandy beaches of Elizabeth Cyn. Still not shad to really report yet, there have been a few sighting of the silver sides and lots of bass fry.
