Atwood Lake, one of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District lakes, was constructed as a flood control lake. It was impounded by building a dam across Indian Fork, a branch of Conottan Creek. Atwood Lake has 1,540 surface acres and 28 miles of shoreline.

Fishing Description:

Atwood Lake is considered one of the finest saugeye fisheries in Northeast Ohio. It also has excellent populations of largemouth bass, bluegill, crappies, and channel catfish.

Fishing Tips, Tactics, How-To info:

Saugeye can be caught all season long around mid-lake points and drop-offs. Successful anglers primarily use jig and minnow or jig and nightcrawler combinations to take saugeye.

Good numbers of bass are caught each spring in the upper reaches of the lake.

Bluegills are harvested by both boat and shore anglers each May and June using redworms, wax worms, or maggots.

Crappies can be taken on live minnows or small jigs from sunken shoreline brush each spring just as the dogwood trees bloom.

Mid-season fishing, especially at night, with shrimp, nightcrawlers, or prepared bait is the best way to catch catfish.

Recreational facilities include a lodge, cabins, picnic, and camping areas, swimming beach, park and playground, ski slope, golf course, and marina.

The Atwood Area Fall Festival is held at Atwood Lake Park. The event is held each year during the first weekend in October.

Atwood Lake is located at the western edge of Dellroy in western Carroll County along State Route 542. The dam is in Tuscarawas County on State Route 212.
