Okatibbee Lake is a 3,500 acre clear lake in Lauderdale County.

Located only seven miles northwest of Meridian, MS on Okatibbee Creek, Okatibbee Lake is an important feature in the development of the Pascagoula River Basin.

The project was authorized by Congress in 1962 primarily for flood reduction on 26,000 acres of residential, industrial and agricultural lands along Okatibbee Creek and the upper Chickasawhay River.

Today, the beautiful waters of the lake and the surrounding forests provide excellent recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, camping, hunting, and enjoying the parks.

Fishing Description:

Okatibbee is an excellent fishing lake with extensive beaver flowages, stump beds and old creek channels providing abundant cover where anglers battle largemouth and striped bass. Large populations of catfish, crappie and bream are also present. Crappie, catfish, stripers and bass are caught from the fishing platform at the tailrace below the dam.

More than 20 fish attractors and several bream beds have been constructed in the lake. A cooperative management program with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, & Parks includes the annual stocking of both forage and game fish.
