Dolan Lake is a 75 acre reservoir just south of McLeansboro. The lake is part of the Hamilton County State Fish and Wildlife Area which has a total area of 1600 acres. The lake is known for its excellent fishing for channel catfish, largemouth bass, and sunfish.

Fishing Description:

Channel catfish average from 2 - 3 pounds. They are best in the Summer off the dam, the steep shoreline, and the points.

Largemouth bass average from 2 - 4 pounds. They are available from Spring through Fall and best found in the shoreline cover, the points and the brush piles.

Redear sunfish are available from May through September with an average of a 1/3 pound. They are best in the spawn beds and a little deeper in the Summer months.

Recreational Activities:

Horseback, hiking trails and playground equipment available.

Camping:

Tent and trailer sites are available with electricity and sanitary dump stations and a shower house. Campers need to obtain a permit from the site personnel when they arrive at the area. Three cabins are located on scenic Dolan Lake across from a modern shower building. No cooking, pets, or smoking allowed in Cabin. Fire grill and table provided out side. Full size bed, two sets of bunk beds, table and chairs provided inside. Cabin has heat and a/c available. Bring your own bedding.
