Horsethief is managed as a rainbow trout fishery and is a popular summer destination for anglers and other recreationists.

Fishing Description: 

Large numbers of catchable size rainbow trout are stocked in the spring and fall months to maintain good fishing. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game drained and poisoned Horsethief in 2006 to get rid of unwanted perch that overpopulated the reservoir. The agency restocked it spring 2007 with rainbow and brown trout.

Boat Ramp: 

Public fishing docks and ramps for small boats.

Directions to Lake: 

Travel through Cascade on Highway 55. Just north of town, turn east on the Warm Lake Highway and travel 6 miles to the Horsethief Reservoir turnoff on the south side of the road; then travel 3 miles south to the reservoir.
