What is the best bait and technique for bass fishing?

I live near a very large lake and I wanted to go bass fishing this summer, but I don't know what the best lures or plastic bait are the best. I also don't know, when using plastic bait or lures, what the best technique is. Can anyone Help me?

You don't say if you will be in a boat or on the shore.
In a boat a spinner, crank or jig and pig will work wonders and let you cover alot of water fast....

When you get a strike keep your lure in the same area as there will be more fish there...Don't be in a hurry to move to anoher spot.

If fishing from the shore try a live worm reeled in slowly or a texas or carolina rig. With bass patience is the key.
