Fishing Description:

The most consistent fisheries on Newnans Lake are catfish and bream, and these can be caught year-round in deeper areas of the lake and the lake shoreline, respectively.

Fishing Cover / Structure:

The lake is surrounded by cypress trees that provide good angling when water levels are high. Sparse areas of emergent grasses, bulrush, and spatterdock (water lilies) are found around the shoreline of Newnans Lake.

Fishing Tips, Tactics, How-To info:

Reports of large bluegill and creels of 50 per person have not been uncommon over the last several months, and catfish catches have been steady throughout the majority of the lake, especially near Palm Point. Although black crappie catches have been off-and-on over the last several months, the crappie bite is expected to improve as they make their way to the shoreline with the decline in temperatures. The east shoreline from Powers boat ramp to Hatchet Creek has been the most productive area.

Boat Ramp:

Access to Newnans Lake has become more of an issue as water levels continued to drop during the summer months.

Anglers should also be aware of tagged black crappie and largemouth bass with reward values ranging from $5 to $200.

Directions to Lake:

Newnans Lake is located about two miles east of Gainesville on Highway 20.
