Common Snook
This species is native to the coastal waters of the western Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, from southern Florida and Texas to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The oo can be pronounced as in either room or good.
Occurring in shallow coastal waters (up to 20 metres (66 ft) depth), estuaries, and lagoons, the fish often enters fresh water.
The Common Snook is carnivorous, with a diet dominated by smaller fishes, and crustaceans such as shrimps, and occasionally crabs.
There are various baits and lures that can be used to catch snook as well as various techniques that can be applied. It is similar to fishing for a large mouth bass. So, one of the methods is to target deeper holes using live pinfish, or you can use artificial ones like buck tail or plastic tail jig, bumped along the bottom of the water. Try this trick. Troll a needle fish or a ballyhoo, rigged to large feather.
A hungry snook will hit a variety of bait including small live fish, shrimp or crabs. Artificial lures are also popular with anglers hunting snook. Fish-shaped soft and hard bodied lures, along with shrimp-tipped jigs and spoons, are among the favorites. Because snook tend to like bait that passes right in front of its nose, top snook anglers have good casting skills that take them as close as possible to shore or structures without getting hung up.
