Lake Perris is the southernmost reservoir of the SWP. Lake Perris provides water supply, fish and wildlife enhancement, and recreation in northwestern Riverside County. It is one of the most popular recreational lakes in the SWP system.

Fishing Description:

Lake Perris was the first lake in Southern California to be stocked with Alabama spotted bass. Anglers also planted rainbow trout, channel catfish, and Florida bluegill. Green sunfish were not planted but arrived with the water from the California Aquaduct, along with tiny shrimp from San Francisco Bay that provide food for the gamefish. The lake also has a large population of crayfish or "crawdads."

Fishing Tips, Tactics, How-To info:

The best areas to look for catfish are the southwest corner of the dam or the east end of the lake. The catfish tend to prefer mackerel or nightcrawlers as bait. Look for bass around Alessandro Island. Trout are taken along the dam and respond well to threadfin Shad. Bluegill like crickets or meal worms and can be taken around the marina or in marshy areas. "Crawdads" can be taken by hand, line or net. You must, however, be in possession of a valid California fishing license if you are over 16 years of age.

Fish Stocking Report:

The Department of Fish and game stocks trout at Lake Perris about every two weeks, mid week, during the cooler months. Park employees are not informed of the exact dates when Fish and Game will stock the lake. You are welcome to contact Fish and Game at 909-484-0459.

Recreational Activities:

Picnicking, swimming, horseback riding, sailing, power boating, camping, water skiing, fishing, hiking, bicycling, hunting and rock climbing

Camping:

The family campground has 167 sites for tent camping (no hookups); water, electricity and sink water hookups are available in the 264 paved R.V. sites. Each site has a table, fire ring with a grill and access to piped water. Sites accommodate a maximum of 8 people, and a maximum of three licensed vehicles. No extra vehicle parking is available. Restrooms are nearby, and a trailer sanitation station is near the campground entrance.

Camping reservations are site-specific (800-444-7275).

Notes:

Beginning April 1, 2009 all vessels entering Lake Perris will be inspected for Quagga and Zebra Mussels.

Only clean, drain, and dry boats and equipment will be acceptable for inspection upon arrival to the park.

Alessandro Island, within Lake Perris, is a day-use, boat-in-only area and has picnic tables with cooking grills. The island is accessible only by boat.
