Lake Piru is a lake located in Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County, California, and was created by the construction in 1955 of the Santa Felicia Dam on Piru Creek which is a tributary of the Santa Clara River. It is situated downstream from Pyramid Lake and can be accessed from Piru Canyon Road near the town of Piru. The elevation of the lake is about 1050 feet above sea level, and the elevation of the dam spillway is 1055 feet or 322 m above sea level.

Facilities and Parks: 

Marina, bait & tackle. No swimming, water skiing OK. RV sites with hookups. Barrier-free ramps to water.


Lake Piru offers level tree-shaded camping sites, clean restrooms, free hot showers and fully stocked store to meet most camping and boating needs. Motor homes, trailers and truck campers are welcome. Lake Piru has paved roads, pull-through, tree-shaded sites, and convenient dump stations.

Boat Ramp: 

A five-lane concrete launch ramp is available at all water levels for fast launching and a convenient boarding float is located on the ramp to assist in easy access to your boat.


The state of California now requires all boats to have a 10-minute inspection for mussels before entering the lake. A tagging program in place so customers who only put their boat in at Lake Piru can avoid this inspection on future visits.


Two floating restrooms, aptly named the S.S. Reliefs, help make your day on the lake more pleasurable. Personal Watercraft are prohibited!

Directions to Lake: 

Lake Piru is located within an hour of most of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Located just north of Highway 126, between Ventura and Highway 5. Traveling on Highway 101, in Ventura, take Highway 126 east to the Piru turnoff. From Highway 5, just north of Magic Mountain in Valencia, take Highway 126 west to the Piru turnoff.
