Fishing for Smallmouth Bass in Streams

There are several ways to fish for smallmouth bass in streams. Depending on the stretch of stream you are fishing and available access, you have the option of wading or floating. The type of rod and reel you use for stream smallmouth depends on the conditions and the type of lure or bait you intend to use. Both light action spinning and baitcasting outfits work well for casting and retrieving hard and soft plastic baits.

Triton 600 Boat Cover Review

I was extremely excited to see the Triton 600 boat cover show up on my door step. Delivery was faster than stated. The cover fits like it was custom made for my boat. The material the cover is made of looks like it will hold up to the weather and protect my boat.

The night before its arrival, my boat cover ripped after a storm. I don't know about you, but this seems to be a yearly occurrence. I tend to be cheap by nature, so I do not spend a lot of money on boat covers but I am willing to spend a little more if it is going to last. After opening the box and seeing the Triton 600, my hopes were lifted.

Basic Bluegill Fishing Tips

The bluegill is native to central and eastern United States but has been introduced throughout much of North America. Many a young angler boasts the delicious bluegill as a first catch, while seasoned anglers using light tackle find it a valiant fighter. Bluegills are generally found in slow moving or standing water where there is plenty of vegetation or other shelter. Rarely will a bluegill chase food items; therefore, it's important to fish very slowly. This is true whether you use artificial lures or live bait.

Channel Catfishing Tips

To be successful at any type of fishing, you need to understand the behavior of the fish you’re pursuing. Channel catfish are no exception. Channel cats prefer cooler, deeper, cleaner water than bullheads, and water with a sand or gravel bottom. During the day, they hide among rocks or logs. Channel cats feed both day and night, although they are best fished from dusk through early night. They take a large part of their food from the bottom, but they also feed at the surface.

As scavengers, channel catfish will eat almost anything, dead or alive. They prefer minnows, crayfish, and aquatic insects or invertebrates. Trot or jug lines, or rod and reel are favored fishing methods. With their impressive size and high quality flesh combine to make Channel Catfish popular as a sport fish.

Summer Walleye Fishing

Some of the finest walleye fishing takes place in late spring and early summer, once spawning is completed and the fish begin to search for food. Forage fish are not abundant in this period and all predators are moving extensively, a phenomenon which makes it much easier to find the more aggressive fish. In the late spring and summer months, walleye move to deeper water and structure. Summer months can provide some of the most consistent fishing patterns and action. It’s during this period that walleye readily bite throughout the day and often best during the mid-day hours.

Crappie Fishing Techniques

Angling for Crappie is popular throughout much of North America. Crappie can be caught with most kinds of fishing tackle from cane poles to ultralight spinning tackle to fly rods. Crappies have a soft, fleshy mouth, and they are frequently referred to as "papermouths." Because of the soft membrane near the jaw, anglers should be very careful when setting the hook and handling crappie. Setting the hook with too much force will only tear the mouth and result in lost fish.

Because of their diverse diets, crappie may be caught in many ways, including casting light jigs, trolling with minnows or artificial lures, using small spinnerbaits, or using bobbers. Crappie can be caught year round, but the best time is during the spring spawning season when the fish are in shallow water and relatively easy to locate. Crappie often congregate in groups; if one is caught, more are usually present.

Lures for Muskie Fishing

Lures for muskie fishing fall into three basic types: Crank Baits, Spinner Baits and Jerk Baits. There are many different models and colors available in most tackle shops.

Crank Baits

Classic Crank Baits float on the surface or suspend in the water, but will dive under the surface of the water and swim with a side-to-side wobbling movement (hence the alternative name wobbler) upon retrieval. Plastic Crank Baits can dive to either a very shallow depth, due to a small lip, or to a moderately deep depth (i.e. several meters), due to a large lip. As for wood Crank Baits, the size of the lip is not what makes your depths increase or decrease, but rather, it is the way you bend the lip or eye. Sometimes, Crank Baits are named after their diving ability, e.g. "deep-diver" or "shallow-diver". Crank Baits can also be designed to hover (neutral buoyancy), sink slowly, or sink rapidly. Some have a small metal ball inside to "rattle" when retrieved.

Fishing Power Plant Lakes

One interesting fact that many people don't realize about Texas is that there are relatively few natural lakes in the entire state. However there are hundreds of lakes in the state that have been artificially dammed. The one major lake in Texas that is a natural lake is Lake Caddo in east Texas. According to Caddo Indian legend the lake was formed during a giant flood that caused a log jamb on the Red River and backed water up into the Cypress Bayou watershed, forming the lake. Caddo Lake was artificially dammed in the early 1900's for flood control when oil was found in the area.

Most of the other large lakes in Texas were formed by dams built by the Corps of Engineers on major rivers to provide hydroelectricity, store water and provide flood control. Many of these Corps of Engineers lakes, with the help of Texas Parks and Wildlife have become excellent lakes for fishing and recreation.

A Beginner's Guide To Understanding Bass Fishing

Bass fishing essentially involves angling for North American game fish, or more popularly called as black bass. There are a lot of black species in North America that are considered to be game fish, and these include the small mouth bass, the largemouth bass, the Kentucky bass (or Spotted bass), Guadalupe bass, and many others. However, while North American game fish are called as bass, they are actually part of the sunfish family.

Fishing With Live Bait For Muskies in Wisconsin

I've used this technique for musky as well as pike, bass and walleye in the spring.

Everyone knows that sucker fishing for musky can be explosive in the fall, but how many of you are fishing with live bait in the spring?
