Winter Carp Fishing Tactics

Catching carp in winter has a reputation for being difficult but I believe I've developed methods at Vaux which turn the odds in my favor. Let me give you an example;

On Thursday, 24th November a good helping of mixed giant maize and wheat, cooked and prepared in bulk, were fed to the carp at Vaux over a deep spot in the middle of the lake where they are always fed in winter.

Prior to this and up to 2nd December, this carp feeding spot could not be seen as it is in deep water and there had only been a small amount of carp feces showing in the lake. Carp feces indicate what they have been feeding on; these sausage shapes, bound by a glutinous substance so that they float, are easily recognizable.

Carp Fishing Tips

Good carp fishing can be found in many different types of water. Many find rivers to provide some of the most challenging, but rewarding fishing. Being that many rivers connect directly with the ocean, it has been said that perhaps the largest carp in a given river may reside in the stretch between the beginning of the tidal influence and where the salinity becomes intolerable to the carp (exactly where this is is unknown, but some state water that is roughly half fresh and half salt is likely the limit).

Carp Fishing Tips

Two simple tips are important to remember. First, carp are naturally spooky, so take care not to cause too many disruptions while fishing. Also, carp "hit" by taking the bait and swimming away quickly. To make sure you hook the fish without losing your rod, try keeping the bail of your reel open or in "free spool". This will let the carp run with you bait and not feel any drag resistance so you can get a good hookset.

Carp fishing from shore of a river can be a lot of fun for the entire family and not break the bank. There are so many rivers and lakes in the world that have carp and catfish that you are almost assured of catching something each time you go fishing.

Carp are usually easy to catch. They are the type of fish that scours the bottom of the river for food. They have a mouth like a vacuum cleaner sucking up anything that it can eat. Live bait such as worms do not usually work, however they will suck it up occasionally if it's lying on the bottom of the river.

Fishing for Carp

In both Europe and Asia, Carp has been one of the most frequently sought sportfish for centuries, respected as much for its wariness as the strength of its fight. With painted faces, English, French, and Dutch anglers may pace the length of their favorite canalin sponge-soled shoes for months before landing the wise Carp that is rumored to swim there -- even then, the fish is typically returned to the water for the next round.

Catfish are a very popular species that almost every type of fishermen has fished for at some point in time. There are different species of catfish but the most well-known are the channel, blue, bullhead and flathead cats. All catfish are bottom feeders and they are extremely curious by nature. This is the reason that when they see something that gets their attention they will go check it out. This means that as long as you use bait that interests them, it won't be long before you start reeling in the catfish.
